  1. can i run the logoon now with the higher resolution.

  2. Hitting fullscreen on a 480p video simply stretches and re-sizes the content to fit a larger resolution. I'm guessing this does just the opposite and shrinks the larger resolution image to fit the smaller resolution screen.

Basically its not really producing the higher resolutions, just shrinking stuff down?

Handy trick though for when the OS cant fit boxes on the screen though. I had a TOS box that I couldn't accept because it couldn't size it right.

For web pages I think simply zooming out a bit with multitouch will work better in a ... pinch (horrible pun.)

    Still, good find though!

  3. 1024x768 doesn't look too bad for being a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it would be really nice if there was a method to force a 16:9 resolution. The 1024x768 is useful though for things that complain about the slightly lower 1024x600.

  4. Any known issues with wifi? I must restart the S10-3T every other time to synch with my fios wifi router.

Awesome site thanks for all the hard work!

  5. Intel's integrated software has something for aspect ratio but it doesn't work. To maintain the aspect ratio at 768 you would need to have a horizontal of 1310. (1310 x 768) Maybe I'll look into it later.

@Anonymous regarding wifi. First update your wifi drivers. Drivers are in the Tip page. The issue could be that your system is hibernating and not restoring the wifi driver. An update to your wifi drivers should do it. If that doesn't work then it could also be the wifi router. Let us know what happens.

I'm not sure because I don't have Microsoft's Surface Pack. If someone has it then they can let us know.

  8. when i restart my computer it neither saves nor activates the new resolutions. why can i do to fix this.

  9. @Anonymous regarding saving resolution

There's a good chance that you need to update Intel GMA drivers. The latest drivers can be found on "Update Intel GMA 3150 Graphics Drivers" post. Check it out and see if that works.

  10. Microsoft's Surface Pack still doesn't work with the new resolutions. I think the this netbook doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the video card. On another note, I would really like to get a resolution of 1310x768... and thanks again Jesse for all the work you put into speeding up the S10-3T!

  11. @Anonymous regarding Surface Pack
I have used the surface pack on the S10-3T and Lagoon will not work. It is a video card issue. I really don't find too many useful things about it. The globe application is neat and the it has 1 good physics game. Besides that the MS Surface Pack is useless.

  12. I've upgraded my graphics driver, then found that the registry entry did not exist, so I googled the location for it and created the entry myself. However, no new options are allowed.

I can see in some dialog windows that my card will allow me to have several other resolutions other than 1024x600 and 800x600, but they are all SMALLER than 800x600 :/

Just to clarify, the registry entry is supposed to be a DWORD at
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ialm\Device0\
correct? any other help on what might be wrong?

  13. @Franklin
    The registry is located at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000

The value is a DWORD. Hope that helps.

  14. Is this really changing the resolution or just stretching ?

    Thanks.

  15. To Franklin & Jesse, re: Registry Entry
I was able to locate Display1_DownScalingSupported
    at both
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Video\(154229D9-2695-4849-A329-88A1A7C4860A\0000
    and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\(154229D9-2695-4849-A329-88A1A7C4860A)\0000
Either seems to do the job.
The 3D performance drop with the "new resolutions" is substantial to the point that I would never use them unless I had some very specific need to.
My 3D simple graphics dropped to half its normal performance, from 189 fps to 78.2 @ 1024 X 768, and down to one third (59.3 fps) @ 1152 X 864
Both resolutions are disproportionate and you'll find in your pictures that it will make people look fat.

  16. @rockysosua

Your right about the performance drop. After playing with the highest resolution I dropped it down to the 1024 x 768 (which I do need for some apps). If you had your Windows 7 style on "Classic" it would look ugly, but it would improve performance. Try it out and since you are benchmarking you should be able to tell the difference with specific numbers. I haven't checked the pic "fat effect" so i wouldn't know.

  17. To Jesse,
Yes, you are correct that by turning the aero graphics off, there is no difference in graphics performance and if you run those new resolutions in "classic", there will be no performance loss whatsoever.
I don't find the Classic graphics ugly, per se, but would miss the taskbar thumbs a bit, but it's not the end of the world.
That being said, my girlfriend would lop my head off if I showed her her pic on the top resolution that makes her look like rather plump. As I value my life and am quite afraid of the Lorena Bobbit syndrome, I will NOT be showing her her pic in that resolution, lol.

You could just tell her that the computer is acting weird... and she's beautiful no matter how her head shape is... and that you even like her thin mustache... ;) hahahaha. JK!!!

  24. It WORKED! You ROCK!

I'd add "Maintain Aspect Ratio" under the driver options tab once complete to smooth out any distortion.

I've got a Dell Inspiron Mini (1018) with a GMA 3150 running Windows 7 Starter.

I wanted to upload software, but it would not load because stated I needed 1024 x 768 resolution minimum.

I did the steps you outlines (change the 0 to 1) and restarted...the screen looked a bit distorted, but I had the extra resolutions.

I'd previously updated the Intel GMA 3150 driver, so I went into it's settins, set it to the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" (under Start, control panel, adjust resolution, advance settings, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile tab, Graphics Property button, Display Settings, Aspect Ratio Options)setting and the distortion cleared right up.

    Thanks again!

  28. Was able to use this to get the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview working well enough on the S10-3T. Blogged about the process here: http://www.richonsoftware.com/post/2012/03/30/Windows-8-Consumer-Preview-on-Lenovo-S10-3T.aspx Thanks Jesse!
